Importance of surround sound?
Has to do with reverb and a fair number of other factors to make it sound like it's convincingly behind you. I have not come across a single television set that uses virtual surround sound to get as good of an effect as a PC with 2 speakers. And I've tried out some fairly expensive sets from manufacturers like

3- 5( 6 if you use a subwoofer) speakers. Most people who have home theater set-ups and watch DVDs in surround sound already have most of this set-up already in place. The final piece of the equation is the SACD player. I can vouch for the awesome sound quality of the new 5.1 mixes(at least on the M&A sampler).

Surround Sound Question
It is my understanding that a standard called 5.1, similar to THX, is becoming the de facto to mix to, and it basically consists of six discrete channels of audio, plus encoding. Am I right so far? There's also a question of levels (surround is VERY level dependant for balance) that is only being addressed now.

Regarding your first question, it was on "We Hold On," there was a recording "glitch" that was "fixed" on the 5.1 surround sound version. Unfortunately, this "glitch" wasn't removed from the hi-res audio soundtrack nor the MP3 on the MVI. Could you point out where? My guess is the little blip at 1:20 where it sort

Can you buy a Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound Receiver and run the Digital Optical cable to the Xbox Advanced A/V Adapter? YES! This is the correct design. Your next question is a bit confusing to me. It sounds like you want to run the 5.1 output from the receiver to the TV stereo input if I'm not mistaken.

Presumably they never would have predicted that some day we'd be able to view films in our homes in surround sound, but that's the way it's worked out. Anyway, assuming the film was recorded multi-track and the multi-track masters haven't been scrapped then it's quite possible for a decent 5.1 DVD to be released.
